Itineraries
Day 1
Ecuador 13 Days / 12 Nights
The hacienda house of Su Merced, is a beautiful manor construction, part of the buildings of colonial times, this one is a charming elegant site of over 400 years old, each room is decorated differently, and the food is home type. Their gardens are nicely taken care, and also the whole house is like a museum.
Day 2
Quito proudly is the world´s first UNESCO Heritage Site back in 1978. Appreciate its colonial old part which covers up 400 hectares, including beautiful gold-guilded churches, with an eclectic mix styles such as Baroque, Moorish, Semigothic, Plateresque, etc that´s why Quito has named a “living museum” considered the largest colonial city in the Americas and unique arquitechtonic styles, houses, buildings, churches, cloisters, mansions, government buildings, etc etc
While in Quito is a must to pay a visit to the Equator Monument where are country´s name got it from Ecuador.
Ecuadorian cuisine is so varied due the natural 4 regions Pacific Ocean coastal area, the Andes, the vast Amazonic rain forest and the Galapagos Islands, so from each area there´s a great number of delicious meals that you can try everyday a different one.

Day 3
Your Plan
Ecuador is a paradise for nature lovers, due the Andes, sea-currents at the Pacific Ocean, winds, altitude makes it so changing from place to place and surpringsily different, today we´ll drive from Quito, towards lush valleys, to dry ones, and surrounded by volcanoes and snow-capped mountains.
Otavalo is a colorful market, where you can spend hours at and appreciate the crafts of many types like tapestries, wall-hangings, sweaters, paintings, jewelry, etc Cotacachi is a quiet town not only famous for its leather goods, but also one of the popular spots for expats to retire and enjoy the area.
The overnight will be at the local haciendas houses, once again beautifully decorated and with each room different, and their cuisine is just exquisite!
Day 4
Your Plan
In the morning you can enjoy any of the 2 haciendas gardens, or perhaps have a horse ride, hikes, or just relax, before we head to a part of one of the 20% territory areas of Ecuador that are national parks, this is at a crater lake of Cotacachi-Cayapas Park, with the beautiful crater lake of Cuicocha. And return to Quito.
Day 5
Your Plan
Today we head eastwards of Quito ascending to another wonderful landscape from lush vegetation farming areas to the high altitude “páramo” or moorlands with a drastic change of the landscape, plants, wildlife, birds etc and of course weather permitting the 4th highest volcano Antisana with its 5704 meters and snow covered. Enjoy a hike in the area, and as usual a nice lunch of local cuisine, we continue further south, passing lush valleys, farms, villages, volcanoes, and local native people and visiting another local market. Dramatic descend to the little town of Baños de Agua Santa, famous for its termal springs, and hillsides that makes this place a wonderful place to relax. Another little hacienda type inn family runned called En Casa de Luis…that means “At Luis´ Home!”
Day 6
Your Plan
Baños de Agua Santa is called the “Gateway to the Amazonic area of central Ecuador” where nature blessed us with impressive mountains, volcanoes, waterfalls and cascades, rivers, canyons, amazing volcanic formation due eruptions of “Mama Tungurahua” volcano. Taste a little of the Upper Amazonic area, enjoy a hike at the famous Devil´s Cauldron waterfall. Return from Amazonic into the Andes highlands, reacing another nice colonial town Riobamba, the Majestic Main Square, Cathedral, colonial homes etc and time to spend at one the nearby haciendas it can be La Andaluza from the xvii century, or a newer one Abraspungo, both very nice and needless to mention their cuisine.
Day 7
Your Plan
Another adventure today, as we head from central Andes, to head to the southern ones, once again major changes in every sense, landscape, people, towns & villages, dramatic altitude changes like ravines, canyons, mountains, hills and impressive views. We pay a visit to the largest Inca archaeological site this is Ingapirca, although it´s originally a pre-Inca place dating earlier from one of the so many7 ancient cultures that inhabitated our nation since thousand of years ago. Cuenca is another UNESCO site, and you´ll understannd why this city is home for the largest expat community settled in Ecuador.
The hotels that we stay at are located in the old part of the city, usually old houses that belonged to traditional families, like Casa Merced, or Victoria each one with their own history.
Day 8
Your Plan
Cuenca is a city that we enjoyed touring around walking in the old part, and understand why is also named as “La cité” yes very French influenced in its facades, and decoration too, the super new Cathedral with Romanasque style, Calderón Main Square, the colorful flower market, a local food market with an inmense variety of fruits, vegetables, foods etc, the great city viewpoint of Turi, and a must a visit to the misnamed Panama hats, that actually are made in Ecuador.
Here the group will split either flying back to Quito and completing this part of the tour, or either taking the extension to another treasure of our country the Galapagos Islands, or will continue to the most southern province of this country Loja.
Day 9
Your Plan
Once again we continue further south, once again very different culture, landscapes, views, food, people, Loja as they name themselves “the other country” which it´s true, different Andean views, architecture, traditions, etc etc will pass towns like Oña an old spanish settlement, owards Saraguro another of the several ethnic groups of Ecuador, distinctive dresses, hats, and very well known for their handcrafts like weavings, jewelry, beeds, necklaces, etc etc then into the world famous longevity valley of Vilcabamba, they say the climate, the food, the water, everything is so different that makes one of the spots of the world where people can easily surpass over a century and with a good health.
We will stay at a local inn reknown for its simple but nice gardens, views, and landscapes at Izhcayluma Hosteria or similar one, all of them with healthy and tasty food.
Day 10
Your Plan
Vilcabamba Today it´s on your own, it can be just relaxing at this nice little town and see why is another place where expats decided to live. Make a hike into Mandango hill, or into town, or to the local pools. Hosteria.
Day 11
Your Plan
Depending upon flight availibity, we can have a visit to the Castillian city of Loja, another charming colonial city, the Main Gate, the Main Square, Cathedral, Lourdes Street, Santo Domingo church, San Sebastian square and church, Malacatos and Zamora river, the local market. The Central Bank Museum. Transfer to take flight to Quito for a nearly 1 hour flight, and right away connection for another flight to the coastal Pacific city of Manta. Transfer to one of the traditional hotels in town Balandra.
Day 12
Your Plan
For those whom want to have a viist of this tropical coastal city we can visit the old shipyard, the town of Montecristi with its hill, where the “original” Panama hats are made some of them so finely woven can reach thousand of dollars pricewise! Cancebi a local museum, another must is “tagua nuts” or called the vegetable Ivory, and most certainly taste the food of this region of Ecuador, considered one of the best including seafood, fish, crustaceans, mixed with peanuts, mandioc, plantain, it´s just something you won´t regret it! Hotel.
Day 13
Your Plan
Free day to enjoy time on your own, you can head to the several beaches in town, or perhaps go to some beautiful quiet beaches nearby like San Mateo, San Lorenzo. At the right time we´ll transferred to take flight back to Quito and connect your flight back to Canada.
